Beiyuan Subdistrict 2026 Fall Beginner Cello Class Launches
On the afternoon of September 19, a new session of the Idyllic Symphony Youth Public Welfare Orchestra's 2026 Fall Cello Beginner Class at Beiyuan Subdistrict officially began at the Beiyuan Subdistrict Art and Culture Center. Twenty families came into the classroom with their children, creating a lively atmosphere. This also marked another round of new-semester enrollment launched by Idyllic Symphony at its Beiyuan teaching site.

On the afternoon of September 19, the new session of the Idyllic Symphony Youth Public Welfare Orchestra's Beiyuan Subdistrict 2026 Fall Cello Zero-Beginner Class officially began at the Beiyuan Subdistrict Arts and Culture Center. Twenty families came with their children into the classroom, and the atmosphere was lively. This is also another round of new-semester enrollment launched by Idyllic Symphony at its Beiyuan teaching site.

Zero foundation, completely free — among the children of these 20 families, not one had previously studied strings systematically. What Idyllic Symphony aims to do is truly lower the threshold of music education to zero.

🎤 Director's On-Site Speech
During the class, Director Tian Lifu introduced the origins of the Idyllic Symphony Youth Public Welfare Orchestra to the parents and children present. The orchestra is a public welfare project sponsored by the Violin Temple Treasure Hall, with rehearsals, performances, and competitions free of charge throughout; all faculty come from national-level ensembles.
Director Tian also talked with the parents about the children's future paths: Group B starts from zero foundation, and after reaching the level in 1 to 2 years, students can advance directly to Group A; children who learn well and want to continue elevating their music can choose small-group classes or one-on-one lessons at Yuedingshan Bookstore; children who simply want music as a lifelong hobby are equally welcome to remain in the public welfare classroom.
We do not require every child to pursue a professional path. Music can accompany a child for a lifetime, and that in itself is worthwhile.

👨🏫 Professor Tian Yuan: Every Child Got to Touch the Instrument
Professor Tian Yuan, the orchestra's artistic director, shared cello learning experience with the parents and children. This former head of the Music Department at Beihua University, drawing on decades of teaching experience, explained clearly just "what learning an instrument is all about" — what one learns in cello, where the difficulties lie, and why it is worth persisting.
After the explanation came the part that excited the children most: trying the instrument themselves. Professor Tian Yuan led each child to experience the cello in turn, adjusting posture hand by hand and feeling how sound is produced, and determined the appropriate instrument size for each child one by one according to height and arm length.

From "seeing it for the first time" to "drawing out sound with their own hands," the first lesson let the children establish a real connection with the instrument.

The right instrument is the first step in learning; at the beginner stage, instruments can be rented, with no need for families to make a one-time purchase.

The cello is an indispensable low-string instrument in symphony orchestras, string orchestras, and Chinese national orchestras. Among the 117 primary and secondary schools in Tongzhou District, very few have formal orchestra programs, and cello learners are even scarcer; meanwhile, leading secondary schools such as Luhe Middle School's "Guoyun Feiyang" Chinese Orchestra and Beijing School's Orchestra explicitly recruit students with cello specialties.
Few learners, many places in need — this is the reality of the cello track, and also the reason these 20 families made this choice for their children. As aesthetic education projects such as Tongzhou District's three-year "Canal Young Music Fans" action plan continue to advance, more secondary schools will form orchestras and recruit instrumental specialty students in the future. The children starting today are the earliest group to secure a place.
